So, we have been in Udaipur a week now - why so long? Well a couple of reasons really, 1st Sarah got the flu - yay, and 2nd we wanted to see all the beautiful sights before moving on and it is such an awesome place, and we have a long time so why rush!and Joss started feeling ill last night now, so we will stay another couple of days!
Our room is great though, it has a little balcony overlooking the street, from which u can see the Lake Palace. Gorgeous pics hey! Well in real life it is so much better, hehe, just rubbing it in! We are still pinching ourselves!
There is so much beauty in this place, when we have a meal, it is always from a rooftop looking out over the lake. Every restaurant is on the roof, each claiming to be the highest restaurant! We have seen Udaipur from so many different roof tops now, we feel like we really know the place. This city is much slower than Mumbai or Ahmedabad, although more touristy as most ppl see here, Agra and Jodphur I think, like if you were doing a two week holiday. There are so many little shops lining the streets selling clothes, bags, little statues carved out of marble, puppets, leather-bound books, perfume, jewellry..... and lots of mini deli's that sell everything from water to ear cleaners and shoes to potato chips!
We have had some clothes made as there are many tailors also; Joss has had a few tops and even a suit made (stay tuned for pics!) and Sarah has had a few tops and couple of loose pairs of pants made. We are going to start looking more and more 'Indian' as the photos progress!
And Sarah got her nose pierced! She had thought about it before coming, but actually being here made her want to do it more, and it didn't really hurt, just a bit woozy afterwards!
The ppl here are very friendly, but everyone has a business or is related to someone who does, so you have to say no a lot! If u get stuck having chai it gets harder, but we are learning and getting quite good at it! As it is we will have to send a box of stuff home soon!
Last night there were fireworks from one of the hotels, which we could see from our room - so beautiful, lighting up the lake, they do that for special guests, maybe they knew we are here?!
Ok, best chicken meal so far, chicken breast stuffed with raisins, cheese and cashew nut, caramelized and topped with a creamy onion sauce - fit for Emlen I think! hehe
We still haven't managed to get to the Monsoon Palace yet up on the mountain side, or to the Rajasthan Dancing, but stay tuned for more pics. At this stage we are looking at leaving Mon for Jodphur.
Much love
Sarah and Joss xoxo
